For participants who are arriving at Mumbai or Pune airport, we will provide details of cab booking to IUCAA a few weeks before your arrival. Participants will be able to pre-book their individual or shared cabs/vehicles with a designated travel agency. We also suggest participants explore international flights to other major international airports such as Delhi International Airport, and consider a domestic transfer with a partner airline. If you prefer to avoid road travel between Mumbai and Pune, you may also consider a longer layover at Delhi/other airports, keeping sufficient time for a self-transfer to a non-partner domestic airline. IUCAA is located at the north end of the campus of Savitribai Phule Pune University. The city of Pune is about 170 km south-east of Mumbai (Bombay) along the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. Pune lies at an altitude of 559 m and the climate is mostly pleasant.


It is useful to carry or obtain at least INR 5,000 in cash (approximately USD 50–55 / EUR 45–50) for local transport and small expenses.

If you arrive in Pune by train:
If you are coming to Pune by train, you can take an auto, taxi, or Uber/Ola from Pune Station to your hotel/place of stay or IUCAA. The journey to IUCAA typically takes about 30–45 minutes depending on traffic. Please make your own arrangements to reach your place of stay.

If you arrive in Pune by air:
If you are arriving in Pune by air, you can take a prepaid taxi or use app-based taxi services such as Uber or Ola; Uber is generally the more convenient option for international visitors who already use the app. Pune Airport is about 13 km from IUCAA. Wherever possible, make the booking through the official airport counter/app. Regular Uber/Ola pickups are from the AeroMall area. Uber Premier Arrivals/XL Arrivals, where available, offer a more convenient pickup from the Arrivals area and may be preferable if you have substantial luggage. Ola Prime Plus/SUV may also be used.

The international airport closest to Pune is at Mumbai. If you are arriving in Mumbai, you may opt for one of the following:

• By taxi - On average, the taxi ride takes about 3.5 hours, the distance is approximately 170 km, and the cost is around INR 3,000 or more depending on the vehicle and pickup location. Mumbai–Pune Expressway tolls may be additional (typically about INR 320–360).
• By train - You can take a train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Pune Railway Station.
• By bus - You can take a bus from Dadar bus stand, from where air-conditioned buses leave frequently for Pune. Travelling by bus will cost around INR 750.

You can avail one of the following alternatives for transfer from Mumbai/Pune airport or railway stations to the conference hotel or IUCAA:

• Use mobile app-based taxi services such as Uber or Ola. Their premium services are slightly more expensive but offer significantly more convenience, particularly with luggage. If your phone/data connection is not working in India, use the official airport booking counter.
